You’ve booked your Aruba kitesurfing lesson—awesome! Now it’s time to get ready for the water. One of the most common questions we get at Aruba Active Vacations is: what should I wear for my kitesurfing lesson? In Aruba’s warm and sunny conditions, your gear can be light and simple—but a few smart choices will make your experience more comfortable and safe.
- Swimsuit or Boardshorts – Keep It Secure
You’ll be moving around a lot during your lesson, so wear something that stays in place. A secure swimsuit or boardshorts is ideal.
- For women: A sporty bikini or one-piece with good support is best.
- For men: Boardshorts with a strong drawstring will help avoid any wardrobe malfunctions.
- Rash Guard or Lycra Shirt – Optional, but Great for Sun Protection
Although Aruba’s water is warm, many students wear a rash guard to protect their skin from the sun and reduce friction from the harness. It also adds a little extra coverage and comfort during your lesson.
- Water Shoes – Provided by Us!
Foot protection is important, especially when walking in shallow water or stepping on gear. The good news? We provide water shoes for all our kitesurfing lessons, so you don’t need to bring your own. Just be sure to wear (or bring) something comfortable to change into afterward.
- Sunglasses with a Strap – Only if They’re Secure
Sunglasses can help reduce glare and protect your eyes from the sun, but they must be secured with a proper strap. We’ve seen many pairs end up at the bottom of the sea! If your sunglasses aren’t tightly strapped or floatable, it’s best to leave them on shore during the lesson.
- Sun Protection – Absolutely Essential
The Aruban sun is strong, and your lesson will keep you outdoors for a good amount of time. We strongly recommend applying reef-safe, waterproof sunscreen before your session. A rash guard, cap, or buff can also help protect your face, neck, and shoulders.
- Hair Tie or Headband – For Clear Vision
If you have long hair, tie it back or use a headband to keep your view clear while flying the kite and riding the board.
- Fresh Water Shower – Rinse & Refresh
After your lesson, you’ll probably be salty and sandy—but don’t worry. We have a freshwater shower at our location so you can rinse off and cool down before heading out for your next adventure.
